Change your mind about protein

One of the easiest ways to change your metabolism for the better is through low-intensity exercise based around the time your body takes to break down and absorb the food you've eaten.

A post-dinner walk will help regulate your blood glucose levels. As the energy from your food starts entering your system, you use your muscles to demand some of that energy.

Increased insulin sensitivity

Insulin is the energy storage hormone. It helps regulate energy levels by telling your cells to take in glucose from the bloodstream. When your blood glucose spikes, insulin makes sure that sugar doesn't hang around in your blood and is moved to the right places - including fat cells.

Over time, constant spikes can wear the system out so your cells become resistant to insulin. This leads to high blood glucose and all sorts of medical issues including type 2 diabetes, PCOS and erectile disfunction.

Reduce post-meal glucose spikes

After you eat, your blood glucose levels tend to rise. The more carbohydrate is in your meal, the more likely you are to get a spike. This is known as postprandial hyperglycemia. Taking a walk after dinner can help your body deal with this rise and even prevent large spikes in blood sugar levels by increasing the rate at which your body uses up glucose for energy.

Perfect window for a walk

If you were wearing a CGM such as the Limbo sensor, you'd see that 20-40 minutes after you eat a food, you start to see your blood glucose level increase. So if you go for a walk after 20 minutes but before 70 minutes, you're likely to have an effect on incoming glucose.
