Change your mind about exercising in a fasted state
Spend More Time in the Fasted State
Limbo's fifth hack is about fasting and how spending more time in the fasted state is a healthy option. We will nudge you to adapt your exercise schedule for maximum impact, and you will see how much Eric lost by following this strategy.
You have probably heard of intermittent fasting, where you limit the times you eat during the day, giving your body time to regulate blood glucose levels and improve insulin sensitivity. Timing is key, and you should aim to keep your body in a fasted state for as long as possible.
The Fasted State is the Healthiest
When your body isn't digesting and absorbing food and is in a fasted state, it starts a process called autophagy. This is when your body starts to mend, recycle, or clean up your cells. This process keeps your body in good health.
The best part is that autophagy requires a lot of energy, and it will use the energy stored while absorbing food during the day. So you can get healthier and lose weight by doing nothing.
Digestive processes begin before food enters your mouth and typically take about 4 to 5 hours to complete. Your body experiences three stages around meals and snacks:
- Eating: Selecting and breaking down food.
- Fed: Digesting, absorbing, and assimilating nutrients.
- Fasting: The normal state after food has been processed.
To maximize the time you spend in the fasted state, you should eat three times a day, limit carbs, maximize protein, and follow the 4-hour rule. If you can eat after 9 AM and have your last meal 4 hours before you go to bed, you will easily extend your fasting time.
Try this today
Give exercising in the fasted state a go. When you exercise, especially with intense activities like weightlifting or high-intensity interval training, your cells may increase autophagy to help repair any damage caused by the exercise.
The difference it makes - Limbo story
"I’m on day 45 and I've lost just over eight and a half kilos, which I'm thrilled with. I’m generally feeling good about myself and have had lots of compliments from various different people who are noticing the subtle changes."
